STRATUM - A RECORD BREAKING SIRE & 2YO:
There is no finer accolade than for a colt to win the world's richest two year old race being the Golden Slipper, then go on and sire a Golden Slipper winner in only his first crop! This is exactly what Stratum did when Crystal Lily Won the 2010 version of the race.
Stratum was crowned champion 2YO sire for 2010 ahead of Snitzel and Starcraft. In the process, he broke an all time record for earnings by a first season sire. Not since the great Danehill, has a feat of this magnitude been accomplished. In his short career which spans over just two crops, he has produced eight stakes winners including Group 1 Golden Slipper winner Crystal Lily, Group 2 Sires Produce winner Running Tall, as well as Eramor, Eclair Mystic, Streama, Pellizotti & Spectrolite.

Stratum's pedigree features some of our greatest ever sires to stand in Australia including Danehill, Canny Lad, Luskin Star and Vain. All represent Golden Slipper speed and play a big part in the success of Stratum's progeny on the track and in the sales ring.
Many make comparisons to the great Danehill, and it is not difficult to see why!
COMBINING THE BEST BLOODLINES IN THE WORLD:
In the mould of his sire, this colt is out of a city performed four time winning mare who won almost $60k in prize money. Butterfield (NZ) is by champion race horse and successful sire Fasliyev, and is a half sister to Speelberg (by Zabeel).
Along with those prominent sires featured in Stratums pedigree, Butterfield also adds some very potent stallions to the mix including the likes of Mr Prospector, Scenic & Sadler's Wells. As a result, this outstanding colt is bred on the same cross as Group 1 winners Desert King (the sire of Makybe Diva & Desert War), Kings Rose, Rock Classic, and the very impressive Mosheen.
AN OUTSTANDING TYPE, A FANTASTIC PROSPECT:
This colt was prepared by Glastonbury Farm, who is also responsible for preparing the sale topping Strawberry Hills draft. We followed this colt closely, having the opportunity to view him at Glastonbury four weeks prior to the sale. In that period between the initial viewing and his presentation at the Magic Millions, this colt made outstanding progress. He is very forward, and will continue to make excellent physical progression as he has already demonstrated.
No doubt he ticks all the boxes!
He passed a full pre-purchase examination which included an x-ray review, a scope report and a conformation exam. This was carried out by renowned vet Dr Brett Warren, who performs the above examinations on all of our purchases in accordance with the AVA guidelines.
He will be trained by multiple Group 1 winning city trainer Gary Portelli who helped secure this colt at the 2012 January Magic Millions sale. Elite Thoroughbreds will be retaining an interest in this colt.
Portelli Racing has stables in both Sydney and Melbourne. This provides a distinct 'edge' in allowing the Portelli team to take full advantage of the prize money on offer in Australia's two premier racing states. As such, this is an advantage that most trainers simply do not have!
Trainer comments: A very forward, powerful colt, with a huge hindquarter. We will be aiming up at the early races and it is not hard to see why. He was one of my top rated colts on physical type in the sale.
Catalogue Comments: This colt is an A+ on type. A nice bodied horse with a strong shoulder and hindquarter. Great walk, very athletic, and stands over good ground as did Stratum. Looks physically capable to go on with it as a 3YO+ after his juvenile year.
Breeder comments: Did great on the farm. This colt that has a good temperament and handled his early yearling preparation very well. Lovely colt by a great sire of stakes winners.
Current status: This colt will have a short break coming of the sale before beginning his breaking in and education. By a Golden Slipper winning sire and looks very forward, so will be given every chance to compete as a 2YO.

COMMANDS - A RECORD BREAKING SIRE OF WINNERS:
A Group 3 winning son of Danehill, hailing from the famous Eight Carat family (Kaapstad, Diamond Lover, Octagonal, Don Eduardo, Tristalove, etc), Commands had high expectations on him before a hoof hit the track. It did not take long for Commands to show his ability as a racehorse winning the Group 3 Missile Stakes at 2, finishing 2nd in the Group 1 Galaxy Stakes, and showing his best when running 3rd in the timeless Group 1 Caulfield Guinness behind Redoute's Choice and Testa Rossa. Although his feats on the race track were outstanding, it is in the breeding barn where this handsome bay colt will be best remembered.
Commands has been the leading sire of winners for the past three years running, breaking the record for most winners in single season (2010 - 2011). His ability to upgrade mares and produce Stakes winners is phenomenal, having had a Group 1 winner in each of the past three seasons. Importantly, 36 of Commands 38 Stakes winners are theirs dam's best produced runner! A feat no other sire can boast.
The likes of Purple, Skilled, Erewhon, Soul, Marching, Rarefied, Rain Affair, Skilled, Undue and Paratroopers are only some of the sires recent Group winners to grace the race track.
Commands (Above) continues to dominate the winners board!
AN ATHLETIC COLT FROM A PROVEN PRODUCER:
Out of an eight time winning mare in Patou, much like Commands, she has done her best work in the breeding barn. She has had eight foals to race for seven winners, with four of her foals going on to gain Black Type status. Her most notable performer Golden Slipper winner Polar Success, who was a $32k purchase at the Magic Millions.
Patou is considered one of the best producers in the studbook, and is related to an array of superstars which do not appear in her catalogue pedigree due to the families 'close up' success. The likes of another star producing mare, Circles Of Gold, features prominently being an AJC Australian Oaks winner and the dam of exceptional race horses Haradasun and Elvestroem. Globetrotting dual hemisphere Group 1 winner Starspangledbanner also appears in her extended pedigree.
No doubt he ticks all the boxes!
He passed a full pre-purchase examination which included an x-ray review, a scope report and a conformation exam. This was carried out by renowned vet Dr Brett Warren, who performs the above examinations on all of our purchases in accordance with the AVA guidelines.

Trainer comments: A very neat colt. He is of medium size but has great strength through his hindquarter and gaskins. He is a nice walking, big striding horse and has a pedigree you simply cannot buy into these days.
Catalogue Comments: Great pedigree with seven of the eight foals to race being winners. Well noting that four of the seven are Stakes horses including a Golden Slipper winner. Strong, well balanced, correct and has a very nice walk. Rates highly.
Breeder comments: He is a lovely horse and has really come to hand very nicely over the past few weeks. He is very typical of the family and the mare has been great for us over the years.
Current status: This colt will have a short break coming of the sale before beginning his breaking in and education. By a leading sire and a half to a Golden Slipper winner so looks to have the makings of a nice 2YO.
